some impressions of my field trip to the havel river in brandenburg / germany some weeks ago

we worked on an island between the channels of the river which had sometimes a quite swampy environment (the bright green parts of the landscape are actually bit lower and are former channels of the havel). luckily i didn't forget to bring my rubber boots (please admire the flower print, my local shoe shop didn't had my size so i had to choose between them or one pair with a paw patrol print). we also took some core samples from the island and the surrounding lakes which was really fun and did some geophysical surveys. at the last day we visited a hill fort from the slavic medieval times which was really impressive

Die Havel und ihre Seen laden zum Wechsel der Jahreszeiten ein   (DJD). Urlaub auf dem Wasser – das macht man doch nur im Sommer. Das stimmt nicht ganz. oh hey that's where i used to live! and i actually recognise a few of those waldmöpse!

here's another one that was near where i worked:

The famous cartoonist Loriot was born in Brandenburg an der Havel.

Apparently he had a thing for pugs and one sketch he made was about a creature he thought up called “the wild forest pug”.

They put up „life-sized“ forest pug statues all over Brandenburg an der Havel in his honor.
